from this. good evening, everyone. i'm heather holmes. >> i'm ken pritchett. well, another mishap in the race for the america's cup as two sailors are thrown overboard this hour on a windy and choppy bay. jade hernandez joins us live with the condition on the sailors and hue the races will go -- and how the races will go on. >> reporter: we're live at the marina. today, spectators saw the most dramatic action here just a few hours ago. >> as they make the turn, look at the acceleration. >> reporter: some spectators called it scary. you are watching the emirates team. during a sharp turn, two crew members went overboard. both men suffered only bumps and bruises. >> the safety boats had them scooped up within less than a minute. so -- but just -- it gave me a real impression of how

dangerous the collision itself was. >> reporter: high, strong winds initially delayed the louie vuitton cup races. as for the italian team's luna rossa, they finished despite boat issues. we spoke to the regatta director who told us today was by no manes the days they've dealt with so far. he did say wind during the day in august, proves to be one of the biggest obstacles of the team. >> the wind is the wind. san francisco, it is what it is. we saw today, you know, some -- some -- it was a handful at times for competitors. >> reporter: today asecond race was delayed so tomorrow's spectators can catch the best of 13 series and race 4 will be held on monday. the winner goes on to compete in the america's cup in september. jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >> and high winds canceled

today's second race. it's a major obstacle for sailors. mark tamayo is here with a look at how windy and gusty it was. >> hi there. always a challenge. you want to -- you want a wind but not too much. this is the bay and the bay bridge. you get an idea, we do have some gusty conditions here which is from the flag moving. looking at the ocean surface, there's not the white caps out there. the numbers showing up, taking a look at the map, around 3:00, we had winds gusts at 40 miles an hour. toward the embarcadero, winds gusting to 17. wind speeds right around 15, 25 miles an hour throughout the afternoon hours pushing through the golden gate bridge and into the bay. winds were up but not extreme conditions. tomorrow we are still talking about winds topping 20 miles an hour. we have a changing forecast as we head into sunday, monday,

tuesday. i will have more coming up. police in oakland rushed to a shooting in broad daylight today. this after two people are shot and killed at a party last night. noelle walker joins us live from oakland with the latest on the search for the shooters. >> reporter: ken, we're here in downtown oakland at 18th and telegraph. you can sea they've got 17ed and tele-- 17th and telegraph closed off. this the scene of the latest shooting. four victims have been shot and wounded. take a look behind me. you can see some of the evidence markers on the sidewalk where this shooting took place at 4:08 this afternoon. investigators have been mere collecting evidence since then -- here collecting evidence since then. i did speak to a couple of witnesses. they said they saw the shooting and helped the victims. i talked to police just a short time ago. >> when officers got here, they discovered there were four victims from the shooting. three of them were non-life- threatening. one was life-threatening.

right now he's listed in critical condition. >> reporter: so this has been a very busy 24 hours or less than that for opd i started off my day, looking into a shooting last night that happened in east oakland where four people were shot. two killed two wounded in that particular shooting and police tell me right now, they don't know whether that shooting had one shooter or multiple suspects. these are the remnants of a party turned violent. crime scene tape on the fence and rubber gloves on the street mark the place where four people were shot on 105th avenue in oakland. [ sirens ] >> reporter: east weekend is a place where ambulance, sirens, flashing lights and crime scenes are common but people talking about what they see is not. one man said he heard the gunshots, walked outside and saw the carnage in the street. the man told me he moved one

block awaferl. he said this is -- away. he said this is night. that's day. >> addressing violent crime is my top priority. >> reporter: on thursday, oakland's police chief announced "cease fire." it comes on the heels of a shooting that left a 1-year-old boy and his father dead. this mobile command unit set up near 95th and international was part of a cease-fire crackdown on the city's east side. on thursday, the program's interim director said the east side is the focus of "operation cease fire." >> the goal is to interrupt violence. it's more specific shootings and homicides. >> reporter: this woman told her her father was one of the -- told us this her father was one of have the -- one of the victims last night. a bit of serenity and a place that could use some right now at this worship center. one of the victims drove

himself to the hospital. he's listed in stable condition. the other victim is listed in critical condition. the four victims of this shooting that happened in downtown oakland in broad daylight after 4:00 this afternoon are all expected to survive. police say they are not sure when these two blocks of telegraph between 17th and 19th will open. but right now, still an active investigation going on for oakland's latest shooting. reporting live in downtown oakland, noelle walker, ktvu channel 2 news. an unidentified man is under arrest this evening after being caught with a hand grenade in the miss district. it happened -- mission district. it happened just before 10:00 a.m. the bomb squad closed down the streets to investigation at 18th and 19th. officers found the grenade that was inactive. milpitas police are looking for two males who comilted a home i -- committed a home invasion robbery. between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m., a pair of gunmen robbed a home on

pennard street. one victim is 5'10", thin with a goatee and tattoos on his arms. police stopped a suspicious vehicle shortly after the robbery but the two suspects escaped on foot possibly to fremont. 5 bay area landmark is no more tonight -- a bay area landmark is no more tonight. workers imploded warren hall because of it being seismically unsafe. patti lee is live with more. >> reporter: well, the impression, of course, was jaw- dropping but there's potentially a wealth of information under that used to be warren hall. it took eight seconds to turn the tower into this heap of rubble that was once 195 feet high. we're standing less than half a mile from the hayward fault where zwreologists say -- geologists say there is an increasing risk of a major quake. 400 pounds of explosives

hospital that happened two years ago. the building was built during world war ii and closed in 1996. it took 800 pounds of dynamite to bring the building down. vallejo police arrested an alleged fugitive who they say tried to police cars in a daring attempt to escape. officers responded to a report of gunfire at about 2:30 a.m. they spotted two people leaving the scene including the suspect lloyd harris. that started a hild police pursuit with harris driving against traffic and attempting to ram police cars. he and his passenger were stop and arrested. the owner of a california surf shop is behind bars accused of luring young girls in his business and molesting them. dylan greiner is being held on $500,000. he was involved in cleaning up cal beach. police say during a search of his home and business, they

found inappropriate videos and photographs of girls as young as 8 years old. detectives believe there's more victims. a morning bike ride ended badly for one rider. a witness said a cyclist was coming down the mountain around 10:40 when his bike slid out from under him and he went off the side. first responders worked to get to the injured man e he was injured to the -- man. he was injured. his condition has not been released. crews are getting ready to shut down the bay bridge in less than two weeks ahead of the opening of the new span. the bridge will be closed for five days beginning wednesday night, august 28th. on tuesday, september 3rd, the new eastern span will be open for traffic. this will give crews a chance to begin striping and paving as well as demolition of the new span. drivers are advised to take the richmond san rafael, and the

dumbarton. b.a.r.t. said they will offer limited, around the clock services from the night of wednesday through the 28th through morning -- the morning of monday, september 2nd. ferry service from vallejo, alameda and oakland is expected to be expanded during the bridge closure. to the back-to-school coverage with the start of classes around the corner. it's time for students to prepare for the classroom. an event in san francisco, well, they aim to do just that. more than 3,000 members and their families went to the back- to-school celebration. there were free backpacks stuffed with school supplies. the event is put on by the public defender's office and the nonprofit bay magic. across the bay in richmond, students and family today enjoyed the back-to-school carnival hosted by the richmond police activities lead at hilltop mall. more than 700 backpacks will be given away during this four-day

a fast-moving fire is moving in idaho. people are evacuating or getting ready to evacuate. last night, a lightning strike ignited the fire. it's destroyed five structures including a home. hundreds of firefighters are on the line. the fire only about 6% contained. no injuries have been reported. the sweet fire is having the red cross with mandatory evacuations there. a new bill in sacramento would give inmates a second chance for crimes committed as a youth. the bill by loni hancock would require the parole board to

consider the lesser ability of teenagers to control their impulses. those convicted of manslaughter would be eligible for parole after 15 years unless they are considered a threat to public safety. in news of the world tonight -- gunshots from a mosque in cairo. [ sound of gunfire ] >> muslim brotherhood report shot as egyptian security forces surrounded the place of worship. the two fought for hours. tonight, security sources they've cleared the mosque. since last wednesday, 700 people have been killed as the military government moved to squash demonstrations by supporters of ousted president, mohammed morsi. in britain, scotland guard is assessing new information it recently received about the 19197 deaths of princess diana and dodi al fayed.

then possibly some thunderstorms. as far as temperatures, 60s to the 70s and 80s. first we'll take a live look outside. this is the san jose. in san jose where the big story, a lot of comments about the unique cloud formations. a lot of upper level clouds moving in from the south. that's the direction that produces muggy conditions. very humid out there. it will be the case tomorrow. still a nice shot in the south bay in san jose. temperatures from this afternoon, they range from the 60s near the coastline. a lot of 70s around the bay. temperatures inland to right around 90 degrees. most areas cooled off from yesterday. you can see the high clouds, some greens moving over the bay area. no reports of rainfall. but the bulk of the severe or the thunderstorms out towards the sierra, we will be watching for an increase in thunderstorm development, at least chances by sunday night and into monday morning. current temperatures are in the 60s in san francisco, napa right now, 79 and our friends in san jose reporting 75 degrees.

overnight lows will be dropping back down in the 50s to the lower 60s. partly cloudy skies some higher clouds moving in and some dense coastal fog. that will be a factor hugging the shoreline tomorrow moraling. here is the -- morning. here's the weather pattern. we had this area of low pressure offshore and this moves in tomorrow. at least for sunday, morning fog, mostly sunny skies. it will be warmer and some temperatures inland into the upper 90s flirting with 100 degrees. definitely a bump in the numbers, especially away from the shoreline. this area of low pressure steps up the circulation, the southerly flow from monday, tuesday, wednesday. with that partly cloudy skies, and there's a chance of an isolated thunderstorm especially beginning late sunday night into early monday morning. here is our forecast models. just showing the fog. we'll put this into motion. not much happening with mostly sunny skies. monday -- basically monday morning at 10:00. you can see the activity flaring up. tuesday you can see the showers popping up, at least a chance for tuesday morning and that
